How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a variety of perks for homeowners in Binghamton, one being better energy efficiency. Whether you’re researching online or with a specialist at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great option if you’re looking for increased efficiency.

Most new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that has a greater density than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, it’s likely that you have developed a larger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are a few things that you can do to check to see if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re seeing is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to determine if it falls underneath your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions surrounding the leak, it could make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is inhibited it can impact your heating and cooling expenses.
