Windows are essential to your home’s beauty and comfort; they provide a glorious view of your outdoor space, protect the inside of your home from the elements and they let in sunlight to brighten up your home. Because they are so vital to a home, they receive a lot of action. It’s important to keep your windows clean so that they can continue to do their job well.
Window glass can get dirty pretty easily, even sooner with little hands or pets in the home, but luckily glass cleaning is pretty simple. Many Pella Windows and Doors windows have features that make it easier to clean the exterior of your windows from inside your home, too. Looking for an easy, new window cleaning process? Here’s what Pella Windows and Doors recommends:
- Start by brushing off your window sill with a small broom or brush. The dirt and dust that gathers on the sill and ledges will get stuck there for a long time otherwise, and doing this first will also prevent smearing on the glass later on. Make sure not to use the same cleaning rag that you will eventually use to clean the glass!
- Run your vacuum’s dusting brush attachment over the side of your window screen that faces inside. You can also use this vacuum piece to suck up any leftover dirt and dust around your sills.
- Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution, or an ammonia-free glass cleaner like Windex® or Sparkle® to get your glass clean. You can create your own vinegar-based solution by mixing one-part white vinegar to 10 parts water. Apply your cleaner generously to a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel and wipe down your glass from multiple different directions for the best clean.
- Let your windows air dry after cleaning and then rinse your glass with clean water if there are any streaks left.
There are more tips, too! We recommend cleaning your windows on a cloudy day because the sun will dry the cleaning solution too fast and leave streaks on your glass. Also, our Pella Windows and Doors professionals select microfiber cloths since they are the least likely to leave tiny particles behind.
Take care of your attractive view, protection barrier and light source by keeping your windows clean throughout the year.
